The moment it clicked
It was a Tuesday morning. Perfect weather. I took my dog to our usual park, and it was completely empty.
Forty-five minutes later, I left. As I was loading up the car, I ran into a friend with their dog — they were just arriving. "You should have texted me!" they said. "We would have come earlier."
I had this moment probably a dozen more times. Showing up to find the park empty, only to learn later that friends had been there an hour before. Or texting the group chat "park today?" and getting crickets until 2pm when everyone suddenly wants to go but I'm already done.
The problem is coordination, not discovery
There are apps for finding dog-friendly places. There are apps for social networking with pet owners. But nobody had solved the actual problem: knowing when your friends are going somewhere so you can go together.
That's what PawSpot is. Not another Yelp for dogs. Not another pet social network. It's a coordination tool disguised as a place discovery app.
The future check-in is the core feature. You tell PawSpot where you're going and when. Your friends see it. They join if they want. No group text. No scheduling app. Just a simple signal: "I'll be here."
Why now?
Dog ownership is at an all-time high. More people work from home and have flexible schedules. More restaurants and businesses are welcoming dogs. The infrastructure for dog-friendly outings has never been better.
But the coordination problem has actually gotten worse. With flexible schedules, you can't just assume everyone's free on Saturday morning. People are going to parks at random times throughout the week. The old "usual time" doesn't exist anymore.
PawSpot solves this for the era of flexible schedules and distributed social lives.
What's next
We're just getting started. The app is live and free for everyone. Our focus right now is building the community — one dog park, one check-in, one great playdate at a time.
If you're a dog owner, we built this for you. Try it. Check in to your next outing. See what happens.
We think you'll like it. 🐾
